On Wednesday, April 15th, we had a fundraiser for our Lifecycle team. Many generous people donated items for a raffle and a silent auction. Although only about 25 people paid at the door for the event, the auction was a big success and we raised almost $2000 for our team member goals (each rider must raise at least $3000 to participate in the event).
As I write this I’m at 70% of my goal; I need to raise $886 in the next month and a half. Can you help with a small donation to a worthy cause? If yes, visit http://tofighthiv.org/goto/shannon. The beneficiary of these funds, The San Francisco AIDS Foundation, provides leadership in preventing new HIV infections.
Adriene’s uncle Daniel has generously organized an event to raise funds for my team’s bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles as part of AIDS/LifeCycle 8.

I’ve been meaning to visit China Camp for some time. I’ve read that the park is a great place for cycling and now that I’ve worked up my mileage I can add it to the list of available routes.

This morning I forgot that my riding shorts were still in the wash, so when Justin came by at 7:20am I wasn’t ready… again. We were ten minutes late for the safety speech as we rode through the Presidio so we decided to skip check-in for today’s LifeCycle training ride and headed directly to the Golden Gate bridge.

Here’s some clothing recommendations for cycling in cold weather and rain. The goal is to keep cycling comfortable and fun, so I’m inclined to keep doing it even when it’s ideal conditions. This stuff will get me down close to around 40-45F and/or in the rain; below that it’s hard to keep my feet warm in cycling shoes. Keep in mind I live in coastal northern California, so these recommendations are not for riding in snow or even below freezing.

This week we got collard greens in our CSA box; I’ve had them a few times but never cooked them myself. However, I’ve seen Addy cook greens a bunch of times (chard, mostly). Generally, she sautees them with olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice.

My index of DJ Mixes is entirely dynamic. That is, when I add a new mix I don’t have to manually update this page. Here’s how I did it.

On Saturday, October 26th, I managed to get out of the house shortly after 8am and rode to the Presidio Sports Basement in time to do a bit of stretching, fill my bottle with Powerade, and hear the required safety speech.

First, I’ve committed to raise $3000 for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and ride my bike 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles over 6 days in June 2009. Riding my bike is my favorite pastime these days but I will need quite a bit of training to manage this marathon.
